Smoothie Bowls

Image
These seem to be all the rage right now at juice bars but most times they are not detox friendly. I mean you can modify them and have them at the bar however it would be awesome to make them at home. So I have created this very long post to help you understand how to make your own and also some recipes you can start with. To start you should always pick a delicious base. This part is the liquid in your smoothie. My favorite pic is usually coconut water or 100% juice. It provides flavor and helps with the fruit combination. For example if you want to make an Orange Peach and Berry bowl, then you can have your orange in juice and in the presentation or just the juice.  Your next step is to choose how you wanna thicken your smoothie and I personally use normally a banana and some frozen fruit to give the bowl a smooth and thick consistency. I rarely use the avocado but if I am feeling adventurous I will place at least 1/2 an avocado instead of the banana. It gives it this ...

Baba ghanoush, on detox SPECIAL REQUEST!

Image
Hello peeps! Yes you read this right it's special request. A patient called and here is her response (sorry it took so long!). Here is the DL I had never ever had Baba Ghanoush in my life! So I decided ( for research purposes only😋) to go to a restaurant that I shall not mention, ordered me a plate of this creamy deliciousness. If you have never had this the main ingredient is eggplant and the texture is close to but not the same as hummus. It has a slight smokey flavor and it is a spread that if you like it you will want to put on EVERYTHING! If you have met me you would know that the only thing I did during my detox process that was not approved was hummus on a Saturday cuz I wanted it so bad with rainbow carrots (I call it my break). Jeez I wish I'd known about this thing it is just delish. OK enough, now I know some of you go straight for the recipe but for those of you who read the entire thing first thanks and second here are the tips for this recipe: Roast the...

DETOX FOODS YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU COULD HAVE...

Image
Hey Guys! This post was inspired by questions of patients. I have noticed that most people that say there's not enough flavor in my food don't really know what they can have and what they are missing. Here is a cheat sheet of some of the items that you can have while on detox and what to use them for. Vinegar's and Sauces: Organic Balsamic Vinegar- is a very dark, concentrated, and intensely flavored vinegar made wholly or partially from grape must, originating in Italy. During detox it can be used raw for dressings and to flavor vegetables before roasting. The reason this needs to be organic is because it will only have natural recurring sulfites and nothing added. Apple Cider Vinegar- It’s mostly apple juice, but adding yeast turns the fruit sugar into alcohol -- this is fermentation. Bacteria turn the alcohol into acetic acid. That’s what gives vinegar its sour taste and strong smell. During detox we can use this vinegar for dressings, to make relishes and to add mo...

Thanksgiving Menu II Main dishes:

Well I am so happy to have divided the posts into 3 it gives me more time to experiment! That means more mess in my kitchen which my husband cleans. So I would like to start this post by saying: Ok enough cheesiness... Let's get to the nitty gritty! Main dishes: I bet you are probably thinking " I hope she doesn't mean to make a salad because I just cant". But please look at this post with an open mind and an open heart and I promise your meal won't disappoint.  Reading some article I noticed that usually Thanksgiving Main dish includes... Turkey. Everything else is a side... That being said, if you are reading this post it means this season you are detoxing. (Congratulations on your healing journey!!! KEEP GOING!!)  This also means you will need to make some adjustments and your sides will be your mains.  These awesome recipes I have found and tweaked are: Kale Salad (Lemon Garlic dressing) with Roasted butternut squash and Whipped Sweet Pota...

Thanksgiving Menu Part I

Image
Hey guys I would like to apologize for all the CAPS I am using on this post I just want to make sure you read  those items before you make anything. I wanted to share with you some of my favorite Thanksgiving detox recipes, but since there are many courses I have to split the post into 3 if not you guys will go kinda crazy. So this post will include 2 appetizers, the next post will include what to eat for a  Main dish and to follow that my favorite course DESSERT. The reason for this post is simple, I want you to be successful on your healing journey and Thanksgiving should be about celebrating and not worrying about what everyone else is gonna have that I can't. These items I am sharing are both good for your detox and your non detox peeps. (Some of your non detox peeps will ask for salt so just.... HIDE IT!! 😃 LOL just kidding, give it a touch of salt after you serve yourself). Appetizers To get things started usually we do cheese and crackers, soups or salads.... So...

Raw Stuffed Tomatoes

Hey Guys!!! I am So happy to have survived Hurricane Irma. I hope you and your loved ones are safe and sound and for those of you with kiddos... I hope your power has been restored!  This week has been crazy so from my perspective it's time to make food. My mom always made food as comfort. And to remind us that FAMILY is EVERYTHING, she would have people over or we would go to their houses (specially during a hurricane... my house is made out of wood and metal ceiling ). Now for those of you on detox.. CONGRATULATIONS you have survived the hurricane without non- perishables probably for the very first time.  So this recipe is made for those missing some more freshness in their lives. It is so yummy and fast and simple. I usually make these to spice up my salad it give it the sexiness that it needs! Here is the deal though you need juicy but firm tomatoes I used Roma tomatoes because they look so cute when stuffed but get creative use beef tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes (o...

Coconut, Carrot & Ginger Soup

Image
Hey guys! This is a short post but a yummy one. I know that any recipe that lists its ingredients in the name is wonderful (to me lol). How ever for this recipe you will need to dig a lil deeper.  It has been brought to my attention that soup can be flavorless..... I would hate to be on detox and have NO FLAVOR. So here is my hubby's personal favorite veggie soup!  This soup combines the best of the best, it has starch, fresh produce and healthy fats!  It is delicious... and I am not just saying that because I made it but..IT IS SO AMAZING! It is sweet and creamy and so so luscious, it will make you forget what you miss about your regular diet in a jiff.  The best part is that it could be a part of your weekly prep and you can refrigerate it and have this as a saving grace throughout the week!  No more talking more making Here is the Coconut, Carrot, Ginger soup recipe!    Remember that sharing is caring!
